Team DC:

Our team's strategy for the Winter 2012 Balltower contest is to attempt to capture and deposit a high-mass ball (55g) from the tower perches. Our hopes are to first capture one of the 55g balls from the tower perch and to then deposit it. After this, our plan is to evaluate our opponent's movements and either attempt to play defense, or attempt to score another point by collecting balls of the table surface.

Briefly, our machine concept consists of a four-wheel, rear-driven device with an tower construct extended from the base of our machine to the height of the ball tower perches. The tower construct will consist of two arms to knock off the balls from the perches and a net contraption to catch the displaced ball. The front of our machine will have a moveable arm that will open and close the entrance of a holding pen. The idea is that our machine will be able to drive over surface balls while the arm is raised and then will close so that no captured balls can escape.
